Alsey FLUE-SET Non-Water Soluble Refractory Mortar--Medium Duty

Available in 10 lb. 1 gallon plastic pails and 50 lb. bags, Alsey FLUE-SET is a medium duty non-water soluble refractory mortar mix developed specifically for the installation of clay flue tile. While we continue to manufacture and recommend Alsey Air-Set Refractory Fireplace Mortar for firebrick installations, Alsey FLUE-SET may be used in residential applications, if desired, for both firebrick and clay flue tile. It can also be used for tuckpointing and as a "patch" to fill small voids and/or holes in the firebox. As an additional application, Alsey FLUE-SET can be used to construct outdoor fireplaces and barbecue pits if protected from rain for 24 hours.

Its non-water soluble feature makes Alsey FLUE-SET acceptable and approved for clay flue tile and firebrick installations by all of the national building codes, including The International Code Council, The International Residential Code and The National Fire Protection Association.

Mix entire contents of bag with 3.75 quarts of clean water, or .75 quarts per 10 lbs. of dry product and mix thoroughly until completely blended. An entire 50 lb. bag will yield approximately 60 lbs. of refractory mortar when properly mixed with water.

Setting time will vary depending upon humidity and the addition of warm water will accelerate this process.  For best results,
dip firebrick to be laid up in a pail of clean water, or spray the void or area to be pointed with water. This will prevent the water
in the FLUE-SET from being wicked out of the mortar before hydraulically setting up. Please allow seven days before heat is applied.  Joint thickness should be thin (1/16" - 1/8") for clay flue tile. A thicker joint may be used when laying up firebrick.  The rule of thumb is 350 to 400 lbs. of prepared mortar will lay up to one thousand 9 x 4 1/2 x 2 1/2" straights, depending on
the thickness of the joint.

Do not add any additives such as fireclay, sand, cement and/or accelerators.

Note: Jobsite prepared fireclay mixes containing Portland and dry milled fireclay do not meet national or state building codes. They do not resist temperature cycling in this application, nor do they possess the necessary acid resistance for this service.
